"Sales of Salads Soar on Mondays"
copyright 2002 by Greg Landry, M.S.
Did you know that restaurants sell more
salads on Mondays than on any other day
of the week? Did you know that more
people go to fitness centers on Mondays
than on any other day of the week? Do
you know why?
You guessed it, they're "starting over"
after a weekend (or perhaps week) of
unrestrained eating and no exercise.
Most will stay on track for a few days
and then maybe eat something (or a bag
of something)that in their mind "blows it."
That's their liscense to quit exercising
and once again go back to eating with no
restraint.
I'd like to tell you about the key to
being healthy and losing weight while
avoiding this yo-yo cycle of all or none;
First of all, you have to come to the
realization that your eating habits will
never be perfect. You goal should be to
develop lifelong eating habits that are
"healthy" 90% of the time and not to
feel like you've failed when they aren't.
Now here's what's most important; use
daily exercise as your stabilizer. Daily
exercise, even if it's just fifteen
minutes some days, is a very effective
tool for keeping you in what I call
"a healthy frame of mind."
I've seen this work wonders in the people
I've worked with. It makes it much easier
to develop consistent helathy eating
habits and to aviod the yo-yo cycle of
all or none.
You see, although daily exercise is loaded
with physical health and weight loss
benefits, it also affects you mentally.
It makes you feel good about the healthy
lifestyle you're pursuing and it makes
you want more of it.
If daily exercise can help couch potato
Becky, it can help you...
"Greg, I took your advice and started
doing a little exercise every day. It
was actually only three minutes three
times per day when I first started. It
helped me to start feeling healthy and
my eating habits started getting better.
Even when my eating wasn't that great,
my daily exercise was my rock. I lost
over half my body weight and ran my
first marathon last month. Thanks!!!"

Folks, that's what it's all about.
Your body was made to be active on
a daily basis - when you are, it puts
you in a healthy frame of mind that
affects every aspect of your life,
in addition to burning lots of
calories and supercharging your
metabolism.
